Questions to vet your plumber
  • Are you licensed and insured?
Ensure that the plumber holds the appropriate licensing, such as being a master plumber or journey plumber. Journey plumbers are capable of operating independently under the guidance of a master plumber. If the individual is in an apprenticeship role, they should be accompanied by a journey plumber. If the plumber lacks proper licensing, it could potentially invalidate your insurance coverage in the event of plumbing mishaps or makeshift fixes. Additionally, verify that the plumber has liability insurance, as this coverage is vital for safeguarding you against any mishaps or damages that might occur during the course of the work.
  • How many years of experience do you have?
Experience is significant because a proficient plumber should possess the expertise to address challenges and devise solutions without needing to conduct extensive research for each project. A skilled plumber should have the ability to unravel the complexities of a situation and seek the appropriate information from you to effectively address the issue.
  • Are you insured?
Make sure the plumber is properly licensed and carries liability insurance to protect you in case of any accidents or damages during the work.
  • How much do you charge?
The charges are $120 per hour for residential work and $140 per hour for commercial projects. These rates are exclusive of materials and apply on an hourly basis.
  • Do you have a service call fee for a consultation?
No, there is no charge for me to assess your plumbing project and provide you with an overview of the project's scope.
  • What is the cost of a Backflow prevention service?
The charge is $140 per unit, and this applies to multiple units. Additionally, the necessary paperwork related to the backflow prevention will be completed, including reporting to the city as required.
  • How do I know when a backflow services need to be completed?
You might need backflow service completed in the following scenarios: Regular Maintenance: Scheduled maintenance of your plumbing system can include backflow prevention testing and servicing to ensure it's functioning correctly. Annual Testing: Many municipalities and water authorities may require annual backflow testing to ensure that your water supply remains uncontaminated. Please consult with your local authorities to learn if this is a requirement for you. New Installations: When installing new plumbing systems or making significant changes to existing ones, it's essential to include proper backflow prevention devices. Change in Water Pressure: Variations in water pressure can potentially lead to backflow issues. If you notice a sudden drop or increase in water pressure, it's wise to have your backflow prevention system checked. Notice from Authorities: If your local water authority or municipality informs you that a backflow prevention test is due, make sure to comply with their requirements. Presence of Cross-Connections: If you have plumbing connections that could potentially introduce contaminants into the water supply (like irrigation systems, boilers, or chemical dispensers), backflow prevention is essential. Unusual Water Quality: If you notice changes in water quality, such as odd odors, colors, or tastes, it could be a sign of backflow issues. After Repairs: Following repairs to your plumbing system, especially if they involve the water supply lines, it's a good idea to verify that backflow prevention measures are still effective. Selling or Renting Property: When selling or renting a property, you might be required to ensure that the backflow prevention system is functioning properly.
  • Are you able to obtain a permit?
Yes, I can secure the necessary permit to carry out the required work.
  • Can I provide my own products, fixtures, or materials?
Yes, but we cannot provide a warranty for those items, or ensure that they are the proper products needed. It will save you time and money to allow us to provide the necessary products for your repair.
  • What safety checks do you perform when installing a water heater?
    1. I use industry grade gas sniffer to detect the smallest of gas leaks (other plumbers use bubbles, smell, live flame methods of testing for the leak). 2. I check the flue for proper exhausting toxic CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) and CO (Carbon Monoxide) levels. 3. I set the water heater temperature to a safe temperature range 110-120 degrees F (most installers blindly set the thermostat without checking the final temperature).
